The Sovereign Memorial gold coin has been minted by the British Royal Mint since the death of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022 in her honor. It is the first Sovereign gold coin to feature the portrait of King Charles III. Sovereign Memorial gold coins are available with the minting years 2022 and 2023. The coin has a fineness of 917/1000, corresponding to a fine gold content of 7.3 grams. Its nominal value is one British pound. Sovereign gold coins usually do not display a denomination, yet they are still considered official legal tender in the United Kingdom.
The reverse side of the commemorative coin features the royal coat of arms of the United Kingdom. The royal coat of arms combines the symbols of the individual countries within the United Kingdom and reflects the royal identity and history of the British monarchy. On the right side of the coat of arms, a majestic lion symbolizes the strength of England. On the left side, a unicorn decorates the coin, representing Scotland.
